Richards outlines the history of his life until the year 1884 when his diaries begin. He lived in Plymouth, Utah, where he served as a bishop for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He had other Church callings including as a member of the stake high council and patriarch. Most of the entries are quite short.
