Biographical History

Clarence Cottam (1899-1974) was a wildlife biologist who served as the dean of Brigham Young University's College of Biological and Agricultural Sciences.

Clarence Cottam was born on January 1, 1899, in St. George, Utah. He earned BS and MS degrees from Brigham Young University in 1926 and 1927, then earned a PhD from George Washington University in 1936. He was a biology instructor at Brigham Young University from 1927-1929, after which he served in a variety of positions in government agencies. He became dean of College of Biological and Agricultural Sciences in 1954 and served until 1955. He was a prolific researcher who authored or co-authored around 250 scientific papers. He died March 30, 1974 in Corpus Christi, Texas.
