Biographical History

Bruce L. Olsen (b. 1939) was a public relations professional in Utah.

Bruce Lloyd Olsen was born in Orangeville, Utah in 1939. He attended Brigham Young University, earning a bachelor's degree in Journalism in 1963, and a master's degree in Communications in 1965. He then worked at the university in various roles, including assistant dean and registrar, associate professor of communications, manager of performing groups, and assistant to the president of university relations. He also later served as president of the Brigham Young University Alumni Association.

Olsen later worked as director of corporate communications for Geneva Steel, and as managing director for the Public Affairs Department of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (1989-2008).

In addition to his professional work, Olsen has actively served in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Between 1982 and 1985, he and his wife presided over the Massachusetts Boston Mission. Later they served as president and matron over the San Diego Temple from 2008 to 2011.

Interview by Heber G. Wolsey with Ben E. Lewis, Robert K. Thomas, Harvey Taylor, Sam Brewster, and Bruce L. Olsen concerning their personal experiences with Ernest L. Wilkinson. Wilkinson's resignation as president of Brigham Young University had been announced in March 1971, and the inteviews were recorded as a tribute to him.
