Biographical History
Annie Wells Cannon (1859-1942) was a prominent woman of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and active in local Utah government.
Elizabeth Anne ("Annie") Wells was born to Emmeline Branch Woodward and Daniel Hammer Wells in Salt Lake City, Utah on December 7, 1895. She attended the University of Deseret. Annie married John Quayle Cannon on March 17, 1880, and together they had twelve children.
During her life Annie was the first president of the War Mothers of Utah, served as president of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers, and was actively involved in the Red Cross. From 1919 to the end of her life, Annie was on the Relief Society General Board. She was a member of the Utah State Legislature in 1913-1915 and 1921. In 1921 she was appointed by President Herbert Hoover to be the chairman for Utah's European Relief Drive. She died on September 2, 1942 in Salt Lake City, Utah.
