John Riggs was born on December 20, 1812 to parents Gideon Riggs and Susan Pitcher in New Haven, Connecticut. He was married to Jane Kelton Bullock on October 8, 1843. John and Jane had 9 children, 1 of which was adopted and 4 of which lived to adulthood. John Riggs was a doctor in the Provo, Utah area as early as 1852. He passed away on March 28, 1892.

Scope and Contents

Collection includes letters to John Riggs from various family members that deliver family news and comment on the Mormon practice of polygamy, and other various papers including a prescription note possibly written by John Riggs and baptism information for John Riggs’ children. The letters date between 1852 and 1861, and the other various papers are undated.
