Wikipedia, via WWW, February 7 2014 (born October 9, 1911 in Washington, D.C.; interest in photography started during the Great Depression; was rejected by the U.S. Army as a photographer during World War II for poor eyesight; joined the Associated Press and followed the U.S. Marine Corps in the Pacific Theater of Operations; won the Pulitzer Prize in 1945 for his photograph of five Marines and one Navy corpsman raising the American flag on Mt. Suribachi during the battle of Iwo Jima; died August 20, 2006).

Scope and Contents

Typescript with handwritten corrections of a book manuscript. The item was also authored by Bill Groneman. Rosenthal and Groneman write about the siege of the Alamo in 1836 and present short biographies of the men who defended the fortress. Also included are photocopies of sketches of the soldiers that participated in the battle.
