Biographical History

John Nicolai Thueson Dorcheus (1843-1932) was a polygamist pioneer in Utah and Idaho.

John T. Dorcheus was born on April 25, 1843 in Copenhagen, Denmark to Neils Thueson and Angelica C. Lund Dorcheus, and came to Salt Lake City in 1860 with the pioneers of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Seven years later his family moved to Scipio and then to Monroe in 1874. He married Ellen Jensen in 1865, Alice P. Wasden in 1869, and Mary McDonald in 1881. When the territorial militia was organized in 1863, John was first lieutenant in company B at Gunnison, Utah. John participated in the "Black Hawk War" against the Ute Indians. He later served a mission to Kansas for the Church in 1870. He passed away on February 11, 1932 in Salt Lake City at the age of 88. He was buried in Murray, Utah.
