Biography

Sarah Chadwick (1821-1904) was a Latter-day Saint pioneer and midwife. Sarah Chadwick was born Sarah Goode to George Goode and Selina Mary Ann Holder on March 2, 1821 or March 4, 1822 in Abenhall, Gloucestershire, England. She married Thomas Marshall on May 7, 1843 in Linton, Hereford, England. They would go on to have six children. While they were married, she learned about the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from missionaries, but her husband forbid her to listen to them any more. One day they sat down to tea and Sarah switched their tea cups, causing Thomas to die of the poison he had intended for her. She was thereafter baptized a member of the Church and on April 19, 1856, she left England with her children to travel to Utah. Sarah married Joseph Chadwich in 1857 in Utah. They had two more children before he died in 1876. Sarah worked as a midwife until she died on April 23, 1904 in Dayton, Idaho.
