Biographical History

Deirdre Paulsen (born 1945) is an English professor in Utah.

Deirdre Murray was born on December 11, 1945 to Richard Millard Murray and M. Ramona Rider. She was born in Salt Lake City, Utah and raised in New Jersey, but returned to the West to attend Brigham Young University. She earned her bachelor's degree from the university in 1968, and a master's of arts in American Literature in 1975. She married David F. Paulsen, and they have five children.

Deirdre Paulsen joined the faculty at Brigham Young University in 1988 as part of the College of Humanities. During her career she taught in the Honors Program, started the Writing Fellows Program, co-directed the Publications Lab, and served as curriculum coordinator for the university's Writing Across the Curriculum. In 1998 she left BYU as her husband was called to serve as a mission president for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Curitiba, Brazil, but returned once he was released in 2001.
