Biographical History

Douglas Emron Jones (1930-2016) is a retired professor of physics in Utah.

Douglas Emron Jones was born on August 19, 1930 in Long Beach, California to Emron Higbee Jones and Jennie Cox. He grew up in Los Angeles, and attended Pasadena Junior High School. After graduation Jones joined the United States Air Force, serving between 1950 and 1954. A year after his return, in 1955, he married Donna McFarland. They had five children.

Jones then attended Brigham Young University, receiving his bachelor's degree in 1957 and a master's degree in 1959. He then worked at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in California from 1959 to 1962 before returning to Brigham Young University to complete a Ph.D. in Physics in 1964. Upon completing his degree he joined the university's Department of Physics. During his career he was involved in the American Geophysical Union and American Physical Society, and his research interests included solar and planetary/space physics. Jones retired from the university in 2004. Douglas Emron Jones passed away June 20, 2016.
