Biographical History
James. B. Allen (b. 1927) is an American historian of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and was the Assistant Church Historian of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from 1972-1979. As a professor at Brigham Young University (1964-1992) he taught in the religion and history departments and was chair of the history department from 1981-1987. Upon his retierment he served as a senior research fellow with the Joseph Fielding Smith Institute for Latter-day Saint History. He was one of the founders of the Mormon History Association and served as its president in 1972.
