Biography

Joseph F. Smith (1838-1918) was the sixth president of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving between 1901 and 1918.

Joseph Fielding Smith was born November 13, 1838, to Hyrum and Mary Fielding Smith. He migrated to Utah with his mother after his father was martyred. In 1865, he served in the territorial legislature. Joseph served as the 6th president of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from 1901 to 1918. He died November 19, 1918 in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Most the manuscript material is typescript in form, coming from various persons. Boxes 3, 4, and the first folder of 5 contain all 33 of Lucy Grant Cannon's diaries. This collection contains papers, certificates, and photographs relating to William W. Phelps, son of Henry E. and Mary Catherine Phelps. The collection also includes material relating to his LDS mission to Britain around 1903 as well as in the Pioneer and Ensign stakes. He was born in Salt Lake City, Utah, 16 February, 1866 and died 30 August, 1945.
