Biographical History

Steven L. Mayfield (born 1952) is a law enforcement officer and document collector in Utah.

Mayfield was born in 1952 and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area. He served as a Latter-day Saint missionary in Colorado and Nebraska. He worked as a file clerk for the Federal Bureau of Investigation in San Francisco between 1973 and 1977. He then attended college at Weber State College in Ogden, Utah, graduating with a bachelor's degree in police science in 1980. Mayfield worked as a deputy sheriff in Jefferson County, Colorado for nearly ten years before taking a position as a crime scene investigator with the Salt Lake City Police Department, as well as a crime scene photographer, crime lab technician, and self-described "documentation collector." While there, he worked under George Throckmorton, and assisted with a number of cases involving historical documents. He has also been involved with the Mormon History Association, Sunstone, and the Utah State Historical Society.

Topics include a broad range of controversial issues, such as gay rights, polygamy, racism in the Church, feminism, and early Church history. Dated 1954-2014.

Scope and Contents

Includes VHS tapes of television series, documentaries, and other programs related to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Many tapes cover material that is anti-Mormon in nature, and topics include a broad range of controversial issues such as gay rights, polygamy, racism in the Church, feminism, early Church history, etc. Also included are talks from general conferences of the church and other visual recordings of prominent Church leaders. Materials are dated 1970 to 2014.
