Biographical History

Steven L. Mayfield (born 1952) is a law enforcement officer and document collector in Utah.

Mayfield was born in 1952 and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area. He served as a Latter-day Saint missionary in Colorado and Nebraska. He worked as a file clerk for the Federal Bureau of Investigation in San Francisco between 1973 and 1977. He then attended college at Weber State College in Ogden, Utah, graduating with a bachelor's degree in police science in 1980. Mayfield worked as a deputy sheriff in Jefferson County, Colorado for nearly ten years before taking a position as a crime scene investigator with the Salt Lake City Police Department, as well as a crime scene photographer, crime lab technician, and self-described "documentation collector." While there, he worked under George Throckmorton, and assisted with a number of cases involving historical documents. He has also been involved with the Mormon History Association, Sunstone, and the Utah State Historical Society.
