Willard Ray Luce, Jr. (1914-1990), educator, writer, and photographer in Utah.

Willard Ray Luce was born Sept. 18, 1914, in Price, Utah. He was the son of Willard Ray Luce, Sr., and Rachel Olsen Luce. He married Celia Grnrva Larsen on June 3, 1940, in Salt Lake City, Utah. During World War II, from 1945-46, he served in the Merchant Marines. Willard attended BYU and earned a Normal Degree in 1938 and a B.S. in 1947. He taught school in San Juan County, Utah (1938-19544). He taught in the Alpine School District, Orem, Utah (1944-45, 1948-54 and 1955-1973). He taught jounalism courses at BYU (1946-1947).Willard was a member of the League of Writers, serving as state President in 1948-49. Willard wrote numerous stories and atricles that were published in various magazine, newspapers and textbooks. He was also a prolific photographer. He especially photographed the western United States. He died in September 28, 1990.

Scope and Contents

This series contains color transparencies, 35mm and 7x7 cm slides, and black and white prints taken by Willard Luce. The sereis contains images of animals. There are many variaties of water birds, tree birds and birds found at the zoo. Many of the animals such as elk, bears, and moose were photographed in their natural habitat from many locations specifically in national parks such as Yellowstone. There is also an extensive collection of deer specifically found in Utah.
