Biography

H.W. Church (1817-1875) was a member of the Mormon Battalion Company B and traveled west with the Mormon pioneers.

Haden Wells Church was born in Franklin, Tennessee on August 29, 1817 to Abraham Church and Mary Joan Emmons. He was a baptized a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1841 in Nauvoo, Illinois. Haden was a member of the A.O. Smoot and John Banks western migration companies. He also served in the Mormon Battalion as a member of Company B from 1846-1847 and the Detachment of Sick Company in 1847. Haden died in Shady Grove, Tennessee on September 27, 1875, while serving a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Scope and Contents

A collection of five handwritten RSVP letters addressed to Brigham Young and sent from Matthew Caldwell, Reddick Newton Allred, Simmons Philander Curtis, Haden Wells Chruch, and one unknown author. The RSVP letters were written in the month of June of 1863 confirming the guests attending the Mormon Battalion festival in July of that year. Materials dated June 14 to 30, 1863.
