Donald Max Hanks (1926-2003) served in the United States Army and owned Valley Air Service, Inc. in Washington.

Donald Max Hanks was born June 7, 1926, in Shelley, Idaho to Edward Hanks and Hannah Hanson. Max worked the fields in Idaho as a teenager instead of attending high school and earned his GED during United States Army basic training. He was commissioned a 2nd lieutenant in the Army in the 1960s, working in the National Guard Engineer Unit. Max married Barbara Jean Poll on June 20, 1944, in Idaho. They lived in Walla, Walla, Washington, and Sunnyside, Washington from 1964 to 1979, where they owned Valley Air Service, Inc. They had four daughters: Susan, Alison, Maxine, and Jeanie. Max died on December 20, 2003, in Shelley, Idaho.
