Arnold M. Spielberg (1917-2020) served in the U.S. Army Signal Corps and Air Corps and is the father of director Steven Spielberg.

Arnold M. Spielberg was born on February 6, 1917 in Cincinnati, Ohio. He graduated from high school in 1934, during the Great Depression. He entered the army right after the bombing of Pearl Harbor in 1941. He enlisted in the Signal Corps because of his knowledge of radio technology. Throughout his military service, he lived in South Carolina, Nigeria, South Africa, Pakistan, and India. He returned from the war in 1945 and married Leah Posner. He studied electrical engineering at the University of Cincinnati, after which he worked for RCA, General Electric, and IBM as a computer engineer. He and his wife had four children. He remarried to Bernice Colner in 1997 and gained four stepchildren. His son, Steven, relied on many of Arnold's experiences while making the movie Saving Private Ryan.
