Biographical History

Stephen J. Anderson (1935-1999) was a communications professor and radio producer in Utah.

Stephen John Anderson was born on July 12, 1935 in Bountiful, Utah to Owen Benjamin Anderson and Elizabeth Schellenger. Raised in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he lived with his family on a Church-owned farm in Palmyra, New York between 1939 and 1947. He was baptised into the Church in 1943. After their return to Utah in 1947, the family lived in Spring City.

Anderson studied at North Sanpete High School and graduated in 1953. He then attended Snow College, where he worked as student director of the college's radio station. He earned his associate's degree in 1955 before serving a mission for the Church in California. Following his return he attended Brigham Young University, and worked as the student director of KBYU Radio. He earned his bachelor's degree from the university in 1959 and a master's degree in 1967. He later worked on doctoral studies in educational design at Florida State University.

While studying at BYU he married Peggy Annette Wolford in Logan, Utah in 1960. The couple had two children.

Anderson joined the faculty at Brigham Young University in 1963, where he worked for twenty years. He taught communications courses and was involved in media production.

Anderson passed away on February 22, 1999 in Orem, Utah.
