Biographical History

Robert C. Wood (1925-2010) was an American military pilot and academic administrator in Utah.

Robert Collin Wood was born on September 6, 1925 in Brigham City, Utah to Collin Wood and Ora Calderwood. He was raised a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Salt Lake City, Utah, and was baptised in 1933. He graduated from Jordan High School in 1943, and joined the United States Navy to train as a pilot. He completed his training by 1946, and then left the military.

After World War II, Wood returned to Salt Lake City to attend the University of Utah, and in 1946 he married Marva Hayes. He rejoined the Navy in 1948, and later attended the U.S. Naval Postgraduate School where he received his bachelor's degree in 1954. He then completed a master's degree at the University of Michigan in 1955. As a Navy pilot he participated in the Korean War, flying 168 combat missions.

Wood retired from the Navy in 1972 as a captain, and then joined the educational psychology faculty of Brigham Young University. He remained at the university for seventeen years, including service in the Division of Instructional Research, Development, and Evaluation.

Robert C. Wood passed away on October 4, 2010 in St. George, Utah.
