Biographical History

R. Irwin Goodman (1932-1997) was a communications professor and academic administrator in Utah.

Raymond Irwin Goodman was born on April 20, 1932 in Los Angeles, California to Irwin Goodman and Alma Dolores Flanagan. Goodman was baptised into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1953. He married Shirley Mae Brooks in 1955, though they later divorced. He married again in 1986 to Naomi Sessions Derr.

Goodman completed his undergraduate degree at the University of California, Los Angeles in 1955. He then continued his education at Indiana University, receiving a master's degree in 1961 and an Ed.D. in 1969. He joined the Education faculty at Brigham Young University in 1969, where he remained until his retirement.

In his community, Goodman was an active contributor. He served as director of Deseret Industries in Provo, Utah, as well as in leadership roles in the American Cancer Society of Utah and the American Association of Retired Persons. He also served in the United States Army, advancing to the rank of major.

Goodman passed away on July 10, 1997 in Sandy, Utah.
