Biographical History

Clayne R. Jensen (1930-2019) was an American academic administrator.

Clayne R. Jensen was born on March 17, 1930 in Centerfield, Utah, to Alton and Arvilla Jensen. He ran track in high school and, as a result, earned a full scholarship to the University of Utah. He graduated with a bachelor's degree in Physical Education in 1952. After graduation, he joined the U.S. Marine Corps, where he continued to run track and set multiple records. After leaving the military, he earned a master's degree from the University of Utah and then went on to work as a coach and professor at Utah State University. He then earned a Ph.D. in Physical Education from Indiana University. He accepted a position at Brigham Young University in 1964, where he spent the rest of his career until his retirement in 1991. This includes time as a professor, the coordinator of programs in the College of Physical Education, the Dean of the College of Physical Education, the Athletic Director, and Associate Vice President of BYU. He also served as the official voting delegate to the NCAA as the faculty athletic representative. In 1952, he met and married Elouise Henrie. They had four sons and adopted another son. Clayne R. Jensen died on December 30, 2019.
