Biography

Harriet Goble Garrett (1850-1890) was a handcart pioneer and early settler of Nephi, Utah.

Harriet Goble Garrett was born in England to Mary and William Goble on May 31, 1850. She sailed with her family to America on May 19, 1856. Harriett traveled to Iowa and then Salt Lake City as a member of the Martin Handcart Company. Shortly after her arrival in Utah, Harriet married James A. Garrett Sr. on December 21, 1867, in the Endowment House in Salt Lake City, Utah. Harriett and her family settled in Nephi, Utah where she had ten children. She is sister to Mary Goble Pay, an ancestor of Marjorie Pay Hinckley, wife of the late president of the Chuch of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Gordon B. Hinckley. She died on June 20, 1890.
