He served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Germany and attended the LDS University and the University of Utah. In his junior year he left Utah and went to George Washington University to study law. While at GWU he began acting as private secretary to Utah's Senator Reid Smoot in March 1907. Morris had married Elizabeth Bowring in 1905. Morris graduated from George Washington University with an LL.B in 1908 and was admitted to the Utah Bar later that year. Upon his return to Salt Lake City Morris became Deputy County Attorney and a member of the firm Stewart, Bowman, and Morris. He later became a partner in the firm of Morris and Callister. After his resignation in 1929, Morris continued in private practice and served in the American Bar Association, the Elks Club, the Native Sons of Utah, and the Salt Lake Chamber of Commerce.
