Betty Compson (1897-1974) was an American motion picture actress and film producer.

Betty Compson, born Eleanor Lucime Compson, was born in Beaver, Utah on March 19, 1897 to parents Virgil Kossuth Compson and Mary Eleanor Rauscher. She was active in Hollywood filmmaking from 1915-1948, with the height of her stardom centered in the years from 1919-1930. Compson was nominated for an academy award for best actress in 1928 for her role in "The Barker" and is well known for her role in "The Docks of New York". She married director James Cruze in 1924 and the two divorced in 1930. She married and divorced agent-producer Irving Weinberg. She married professional boxer Silvius John Gall in 1944. Compson retired from acting in motion pictures in 1948, and went on to create a cosmetic line and assist her husband, Gall, in operating a personalized ashtray business called "Ashtrays Unlimited". Compson passed away on April 18, 1974, at her home in Glendale, California.
