Biographical History

Blanche Rogers Smith (1899-1979) was a faithful wife, mother, and member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Blanche Rogers was born February 15, 1899 in Snowflake, Arizona to Davis Samuel Rogers and Minnie Alice Woolley. She was raised with strong religious morals taught by her parents and their example. After graduating from the 8th grade at Snowflake District School, Blanch had to discontinue her education to help her frequently sick mother in taking care of the home. At 16 she began working as a washer for the Houghton Hotel to help her family. On June 5, 1918 Blanche married her sweetheart, Lorenzo Wickliffe Smith, in the Salt Lake City Temple. After the birth of their first child, the young couple moved to Gila Valley in 1919 so Wick could farm with his father. After 5 years they moved to Tucson so Wick could attend the University of Arizona. Blanche supported her husband in his many business moves, which eventually led to owning their own dairy production business, which they operated until selling it in 1962. Blanche and Wick were able to serve in the Great Lakes Mission for their church from 1952-1954 and again in the Mesa Temple upon their retirement.

Blanche Rodgers Smith died in Phoenix, Arizona on February 12, 1979, 9 years after her husband’s death in 1970.
