Biographical History

Mary Helen Giles (1914-1982) was the daughter of Joseph and Carrie Hacking and the wife of Fred Giles.

Mary Helen Giles was born Mary Helen Hacking on December 14th 1914 in Maeser, Utah, to Joseph Pearson Hacking and Carrie Claire Hacking. Mary Helen graduated from Unitah High School in May 1933 and in the fall started attending Dixie College in St. George, Utah. She transferred to Brigham Young University in January 1934 and met Fred Giles that same year. In September 1937 Fred and Mary Helen announced their engagement and were married in the Salt Lake Temple, in Salt Lake City Utah on October 27th 1937. She and Fred had five children together; Joseph Fred Hacking on October 7th 1942; Jeanette Giles on July 25th 1949; Kent Hacking Giles on February 8th 1951; Steven Hacking Giles on April 29th 1953; and Bradley Hacking Giles on June 28th 1956. Throughout their life together Fred and Mary Helen moved around Wyoming and southern Utah depending on Fred's job. From 1978 to 1980 Fred and Mary Helen served a full time mission together in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. Mary Helen Giles passed away on October 24th 1982.
