 Person

Biographical History

Wid Tolman (approximately 1928- ) is a former Brigham Young University professor in the College of Engineering and Technology, Boy Scoutmaster, and member of the Intermountain Silent Flyers.

Wid Tolman was born around 1928 in Burbank, California. As a child, he suffered with stuttering and dyslexia, afflictions which not only made it hard for him to befriend others, but almost convinced him to leave his mission in Texas and Louisiana two days into it. However, after receiving a blessing from future President of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Spencer W. Kimball, Wid completed his mission successfully. After his mission, he became as a Seminary teacher in Payson, Utah, and later he worked as a professor for Brigham Young University's College of Engineering and Technology when he moved to the region around 1955.

After retiring from BYU, Wid continued to find ways to stay active in the community while serving as a role model to children throughout the state of Utah. He was the oldest member of the Intermountain Silent flyers, a group of Radio Control Soaring pilots located in the greater Salt Lake City area. He also served as a Scoutmaster - helping the Boy Scouts in his community by participating in events like Aerospace-O-Rama, along with a camp he ran.
