Biography

Don L. Shumway (1920-1944) served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was killed in action in the Battle of the Bulge.

Don L. Shumway was born in Mesa, Arizona on October 12, 1920, to Elijah Gill Shumway and Sarah Elizabeth Willis. He attended one year of college and served as a clergyman before enlisting. He was deployed in Germany as a private in the U.S. Army when he was killed in action during the Battle of the Bulge in Luxembourg on December 12, 1944. He was buried in the U.S. military cemetery in Henri-Chapelle, Belgium, and was posthumously awarded the Purple Heart.
