Biographical history
Annie Atkin Tanner (1891-1972) was a writer from Utah, and the wife of Brigham Young University professor Vasco M. Tanner.
Annie Atkin was born December 14, 1891 in St. George, Utah and remained fond of Dixie throughout her life. She graduated from the St. George Academy, and in 1928 she also graduated from Brigham Young University. She taught elementary school for several years at Woodward School in St. George. In 1917, Annie married Vasco Myron Tanner and the two eventually had five biological children. For most of their married life they lived Provo, Utah. The two traveled extensively in their later years. Throughout her life she wrote poems, essays, and short stories, some of which were published in magazines of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and other outlets. In 1965, she was asked to speak at Dixie College's homecoming. She was a member of the Women's Legislative Council, Pen Women, Utah Sorosis, Alice Louise Reynolds Club, BYU Women, and the Utah Historical Society. She passed away on November 6, 1972.
