Biographical History

Eugene C. Larsen (1911-2006) served in World War II for four years and was the son of painter B.F. Larsen.

Eugene C. Larsen was born August 12, 1911, in Provo, Utah to B.F. and Martha Geneva Day Larsen. He attended Brigham Young university and graduated in 1936. He worked for the Forest Sevice during the summers and eventually earned his master's degree. He also attended Georgetown University and the Sorbonne in Paris.

Larsen served in World War II for four years in North Africa and Europe. During a three-day pass, he married LaPeal Winterton on September 2, 1942 and left for war again the next day. After he was discharged, Larsen attended the University of Chicago and earned a Ph.D. in Botany. He and his wife, LaPeal, had five children: Neil, Carol, Howard, Jeanene, and Brenda.

After working as a Soil Scientist and Hydrologist for 23 years in Grand Junction, Colorado, Larsen retired in 1975 and he and his wife served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Dallas, Texas for 18 months. They then returned to Provo and worked in the Provo Temple for 22 years.

Larsen passed away on August 4, 2006, in Provo, Utah.
