Biographical History

E. B. Hubbel (1810-1890) was a carpenter in Illinois, and served in the Mexican War.

Eleazer Burr Hubbel was born on July 19, 1810, in Jericho, Vermont, to parents Eleazer Burr and Ruth Brown Hubbell. He moved to Hillsboro, Illinois, where he resided for the rest of his life, and made his living as a carpenter.

Hubbel was married three times and had seven children:

He married Caroline Parker on May 9, 1837, in Cambridge, Vermont, and together they had one child. Charles Nobel Hubbel was born on May 15, 1839 in Illinois. Caroline died on September 23, 1839, and was buried in the Oak Grove Cemetery in Hillsboro, Illinois.

Hubbel then married Eliza C. Gaston on October 1, 1840, in Montgomery County, Illinois, and together they had two children. Francis Dickson Hubbel was born on August 13, 1841; their second child, J. S. Hubbel died on October 1, 1843 at the age of seven months and 20 days. Eliza died on September 23, 1843. She was also buried in the Oak Grove Cemetery in Hillsboro, Illinois.

Hubbel then married Sarah Ann Barringer on April 19, 1853, in Montgomery, Illinois, and together they had four children. Cordelia Hubbel was born in about 1854 in Illinois. Another daughter, who was not named on her grave marker, died on December 11, 1856 at the age of six months. Robert S. Hubbel was born in about 1859 in Illinois. Lastly, Mary Ellen Hubbel was born in about 1863 in Illinois. Sarah died on October 5, 1913, in Hillsboro, Illinois.

Hubbel was a veteran of the Mexican War. He was a mounted rifleman in Company H and was stationed in Mexico from about February 1847 to July 1848.

He died on April 21, 1890, in Hillsboro, Illinois, and was buried in the Oak Grove Cemetery in Hillsboro.
