Biographical History

Russel Benson Backus is a family historian in Virginia and is the grandson of Samuel Cordner.

Russel Benson Backus was born to Elmer Eugene and Gertrude Violet Cordner Backus. He attended Utah State University in Logan, Utah. Backus is involved in preserving the memory of his grandfather, Samuel Cordner.

Backus was raised in Utah and spent some time in Idaho but currently resides in Virginia.

Scope and Contents Contains biographical materials on Russel Benson Backus' ancestors, Albert Galliton Earl and Elvira Egbert Carson. Carson's autobiography covers 1821-1898 and discusses her life as a Mormon pioneer. Earl's biography, written by his daughter Elizabeth Elvira Earl Cordner, covers 1846-1909 and discusses his experiences in the Civil War and as a businessman in Utah. The collection includes original documents as well as photocopies, and both biographies are available on DVD. Materials dated...
