Biographical History
Bruce N. Smith (1934-2014) was a dean at Brigham Young University in the College of Biological and Agricultural Sciences and the College of Biology and Agriculture.
Bruce Nephi Smith was born on April 3, 1934 in Logan, Utah to parents were Nephi Pratt and Laura Peterson Smith. He served as a missionary in Brazil for three years. He married Ruth Aamodt on December 18, 1959, and together they had six children. He received his bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of Utah, then received a PhD in plant biochemistry from the University of Washington. He was a professor in botany at the University of Texas at Austin for six years, then a professor for thirty years at Brigham Young University. He was the dean of the College of Biological and Agricultural Sciences from 1982 to 1983, then the dean of the College of Biology and Agriculture from 1983 to 1988. He was the president of Utah's National Alliance on Mental illness board. He died in February of 2014.
