Biographical History

Fredric (Fred) T. Thompson (1931-2012) was born to Tenus Thompson and Evelyn Maeser on September 26, 1931 in Spring City, Utah. Fred T. Thompson is a great grandson of Karl G. Maeser (1828-1901), a noteworthy educator and principal of Brigham Young Academy in Provo, Utah that later became Brigham Young University.

Fred T. Thompson attended Brigham Young University and graduated in 1954 with as a Bachelor of Science in Geology. After working for the Circle Cliffs Uranium Co. in Garfield County from 1954-1957, Thompson went on to work for the Federal Bureau of Reclamation in various capacities for 32 years. In his career he was involved in geologic investigations on the Currant Creek Dam, Soldier Creek Dam, and Red Fleet Dam.

He married his sweetheart, Eilene Johnson, on August 25, 1956 in Nampa, Idaho. Together they raised five children. Over the years they lived in Salt Lake City, Utah; Provo, Utah; Price, Utah; and Los Angeles, California.

Fred T. Thompson was diagnosed with cancer in 1990, which was surely caused by radiation exposure in his early career at the Circle Cliffs Uranium Co. He retired from the Bureau of Reclamation in 1993 due to poor health and continued battling cancer until his death in 2012.

Scrapbook primarily covers the youth and early adulthood of Thompson, approximately spanning the years 1931-1984. Contains 132 pages, 159 photographs, thirteen religious and academic certificates, fifteen letters, ten newspaper clippings, eight legal and financial documents, and related printed ephemera. Twelve of the letters are from Thompson to his wife Eilene during their courtship.
