Biography

Albert L. Winkler (born 1949) is a librarian in Utah.

Albert Lynn Winkler was born on November 22, 1949, to Wendell A. Winkler and Leota Brady, and was raised in Tooele, Utah. He attended Snow College and completed a bachelor's degree from Utah State University (USU) in 1973. He received a master's degree from USU in 1976 and joined the faculty of the Harold B. Lee Library at Brigham Young University in 1979. Winkler continued his studies after his appointment, earning another master's degree from the Catholic University of America in 1980, a master's of library science from Brigham Young University (BYU) in 1981, and a Ph.D. in history from BYU in 1982. He previously worked as a manuscripts cataloger and became a history subject librarian in 2013. In December 2019, Winkler retired from Brigham Young University.

Typescript of an interview conducted by Albert Winkler of Brigham Young University's office of Special Collections on 4 May 2001 in Cox's home in Ogden, Utah. Cox talks about his experiences as a Marine during World War II. He was a lieutenant of artillery on Saipan Island during the battle. He and his men were involved in repulsing a banzai attack by the Japanese and in the destruction of two enemy tanks.

Typescript of an interview taken from the included cassette tape. Albert Winkler interviewed Rawson on 14 Oct. 1999 at his home in Orem, Utah, for the office of Special Collections at Brigham Young University. Rawson tells about his experiences during the battle of Iwo Jima. He says that his faith in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was essential to his survival.
