Biography

Harry S. Truman (1884-1972) was the 33rd president of the United States of America.

Harry S Truman was born in Lamar, Missouri. He enlisted first in the National Guard as a young man, but eventually joined the Army to fight during WWI. In 1922, Truman was elected as a County Court judge in Jackson County and in 1934, leveraging his popularity in that county, was elected U.S. Senator in Missouri. In 1940, Truman established the Truman Committee to expose and fight wartime waste and profiteering in the armed forces. This greatly increased his publicity across the country and in 1945 he was nominated Vice President by then-President Franklin D. Roosevelt. Upon Roosevelt's death in 1945, Truman was conferred the presidency. He served out the rest of that term and won re-election in 1949. In 1952, he ran again, briefly, but ultimately did not pursue fervently. He died in Kansas City, Missouri in 1972.
