Biographical History

Stephen L. Richards (1879-1959) was a lawyer and ecclesiastical leader of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Utah.

Stephen L Richards, born in Mendon, Utah in 1879, was a member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from January 8, 1917, to April 9, 1951. Richards also served as First Counselor in the First Presidency of the Church under President David O. McKay from April 9, 1951, until his death on May 19, 1959.

Mimeographed copy of typewritten notes. The item relates to a funeral oration given by Richards on 6 Nov. 1945 eulogizing Joseph J. Cannon. Cannon was an author, editor of the "Deseret News," and a businessman in Salt Lake City, Utah.
