Biographical History

Orson K. Whitney (1830-1884) was a carpenter in Utah.

Orson Kimball Whitney was born on January 20, 1830 in Kirtland, Ohio to Newel Kimball Whitney and Elizabeth Ann Smith. A member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Whitney emigrated to Utah in 1847 where he worked as a carpenter. On April 16, 1854 he was married to Joanna Hickey Robertson (1825-1884) in Salt Lake City. He died on July 31, 1884 in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Missionary journal written by Whitney, giving a lengthy description of his journey from Salt Lake City to Los Angeles and an account of his life and activities in the Hawaiian Islands. Entries date from between May 6, 1854 and March 25, 1855.
