Biography

Rey L Baird (1931-1999) was a veteran and BYU professor.

Rey L. Baird was born January 30, 1931 to J. Reese and Ruby Huish Baird in Salt Lake City, Utah. He served a mission in the Samoan Islands later wrote a Samoan Language Manual for the US Peace Corps. He served as a US Army artilleryman in Germany. On June 7, 1957 Rey married Joanne Pay and the two had twelve children. Rey received a PhD from Indiana University and was a professor at BYU for many years. He was also the Chairman of the Linguistics Department.

Rey was heavily involved in Church callings throughout his life. He was a dedicated outdoorsman and worked to provide outdoor activities and education to his family, community, and boy scouts throughout his life. He died of cancer on June 4, 1999 in Holladay, Utah.
