Biography
Samuel Russell (1835-1896) was a farmer and lumber salesman, who served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints between 1882 and 1883. Russell was born in Canada, and lived in Missouri before moving to Utah in 1861. He died in 1896.

Frederick Augustus Herman Frank Mitchell letter
Handwritten and signed letter dated 19 Sept. 1889 and addressed to Samuel Russell of Logan, Utah. The item was written in Salt Lake City, Utah. Mitchell asks Russell to come to Skull Valley, Utah to operate a steam sawmill for the Hawaiian members of the Mormon Church who had settled there.

Also includes a tribute to Russell's sister Isabella M. Johnson upon her funeral, and a receipt for rent and provisions. Materials dated 1843 to 1928.
