Biographical History

Joseph B. Wirthlin (1917-2008) was an ecclesiastical leader for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Utah.

Joseph Bitner Wirthlin was born on June 11, 1917 in Salt Lake City, Utah. He was baptized into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints as a child. He later served a mission for the Church to Germany and Switzerland in the late 1930s. He married Eliza Young Rogers in 1941 in the Salt Lake Temple, and they had eight children.

Wirthlin served as a bishop, high councilor,and counselor in a stake presidency prior to being called as an assistant to the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles in 1975. He then served as a member of the First Quorum of the Seventy (1976-1986), and a member of the Quorum of the Twelve (1986-2008). He died on December 1, 2008 in Salt Lake City, Utah.
