Brigham Young University. Committee on Competence and Academic Freedom

 Organization

Administrative History

The Committee on Competence and Academic Freedom (active 1984-1999) was concerned for the definition and upholding of Academic Freedom at Brigham Young University.

John S. Tanner was head of the Committee on Competence and Academic Freedom for a while. Through this committee statements were made on what academic freedom means to Brigham Young University. The committee also collected information on Brigham Young Universities mission and how they are treating academic freedom as a religious institution for both students and staff. The committee would also work greatly on creating policies for hiring and being a professor at Brigham Young University.
