Photocopy and typescript of a letter from Martin to John Melling, dated April 9, 1849. Letter is also signed by a "John Case" or "John Cane." It mentions briefly the expulsion from Nauvoo and travel to Council Bluffs as well as his being enlisted into the Mormon Battalion. Details all the mileage of his journeys as a member of the Battalion and finally his release and entry into the Salt Lake Valley. Mentions the death and burial of his daughter Eliza Susannah.
