Administrative History
The Security/Police was a law enforcement division of Brigham Young University. Previously known as the Security Office or BYU Security, they were renamed in 1975 and initially remained under the direction of the Physical Plant. The were charged with the responsibility for protecting campus, coordinating with local police departments, and parking management on campus. The Security/Police chief during the period was Robert W. Kelshaw. In 1979 the department was transferred to Student Life, and was then renamed University Police in 1982.
