Most of the items deal with religious and political issues relating to the Council of Trent (1545-1563). They were men of ecclesiastical and political authority. They deal with matters relating to Catholic Church doctrine, liturgy, papal authority, and conciliar theory. They also deal with the various aspects of the conduct of the Council: its progress and decisions. The letters were addressed to Cardinal Alessandro Farnese, 1520-1589...
