Administrative History

Y Stadium (1928-1963) was a hillside stadium at Brigham Young University. The stadium hosted football games, assemblies, and other campus events.

Planning for the Y Stadium, also known as Cougar Stadium, was begun in 1922. Construction was completed for the 1928 football season, and dedicated in October 1928. Located in the hillside north of the Maeser Building, the stadium eventually had seating for 9,100 and with temporary bleachers could be expanded to 13,000. Associated facilities included the Stadium House, as well as restrooms, ticket offices, and a media box.

Eventually, the limited capacity of the stadium and a desire to construct a new physical education building on the site led to the construction of a new Cougar Stadium north of campus in 1964.
