Administrative History

Student Personnel Services (1955-1972) was an administrative unit at Brigham Young University. The division had responsibility for student welfare in the areas of athletics, housing, admissions, financial aid, security, health services, employment, and student activities. The division was reorganized as Student Life in 1972.

Deans of Students responsible for this area included Wesley P. Lloyd (1955-1960), Antone K. Romney (1960-1961), B. West Belnap (1961-1962), and J. Elliott Cameron (1962-1972).

Contains correspondence, reports, procedures, statistics, memoranda, and minutes concerning student organizations, activities, academic standards, orientations, discontinuances, housing, Indian program, traffic violations, accidents, veterans affairs, and security reports. Materials date from between 1955 and 1965.

Scope and Contents

Contains correspondence with students and parents concerning problems, space availability, room assignments, roommate preferences, and financial requests. Also includes memoranda by the faculty committee on honor, and by University officials. Materials were produced by the directors of program for men's housing, including Kenner Kartchner and Blaine Parkinson, between 1956 and 1960.
