Administrative History

The Department of Human Development and Family Relationships (1955-1964) was an instructional unit at Brigham Young University. The department taught classes in family relations, family health, home nursing, and marriage and family counseling.

The Department of Human Development and Family Relationships was established in 1955 in a split of the earlier Department of Home Economics. The unit was part of the College of Family Living throughout its existence. In 1964 it was merged with the Departmnet of Homemaking Education to form the new Department of Family Life Education.

Department chairs included Marion C. Pfund (1955-1956) and Blaine M. Porter (1955-1964).
