Biography

Republic Pictures Corporation (established 1935) was an American production and distribution company for motion pictures.

Republic Pictures Corporation, also known as Republic Productions, Inc. and Republic Films, was established as a film studio in North Hollywood, California, in 1935. It was founded by Herbert J. Yates, consolidating several other film studios, including Mascot Pictures and Monogram Studios. It specialized in Westerns, cliffhanger serials, and B-films focusing on action and mystery. Yates ran the company until the late 1950s, relinquishing control to Victor M. Carter in 1959. The company ceased producing films, but distributed older films for television, and was renamed Republic Corporations. In 1967, Republic's studio was purchased after a ten-year lease period by Columbia Broadcasting Company. Republic's catalog and copyright were purchased in 1984 by National Telefilm Associates, which renamed themselves Republic Entertainment Inc. This company was eventually acquired by Paramount Global, which revived the brand "Republic Pictures" in 2023.

Contains five CDs of music from Republic Picture serials, including the Mysterious Doctor Satan, Spy Smasher, Captain America, Masked Marvel, King of the Texas Rangers, and Secret Service in Darkest Africa, all shows from the early 1940s. Materials dated approximately 1985-1997.
